If all the hot air that has been expended on this topic could be saved, we could probably decommission all those older generating stations rights now...
I've decided to leave my central heating on all summer-this will surely save on my gas bills by avoiding warming the house up from cold come the colder weather...

True - I'm also going to leave my car engine running all the time, so the engine's always hot when I need to go anywhere. I'm going to save loads of petrol not having to heat the engine from cold!

I suppose you could ask a similar question "Is it cheaper to use an immersion heater in the summer than to heat water from your central heating boiler?" :D

No - there are no similarities at all as regards the physics of the two questions.

That is totally different to the question posed.

If you ask which is cheaper - to have my central heating boiler on 24/7 or timed, the answer is without question - timed.

Ditto the same question about immersion heater - timed is cheaper.

What I find perplexing is that we are not giving an opinion - we are giving an answer to the OP's question; yet there is always someone who feels they can disprove the laws of physics.

I think you'll find that 'energy' links the two. ;)
