Why don't you just change the rechargeable batteries if you're happy with the phones themselves?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I have done, and when put back on the cradle they are still not charging.

There about 10 years old, so i'm wondering if they are past there sell by date.

Had all manner of phones over the years, non have lasted more than 18 months.
Decided to lash out a Panasonic some time in 2009, so far so good. Incidently its what our BT Openreach installer said were the best phones 4 months ago.
    Worth a look.
