Hi I must admit I am fuming reading this

You seem a lovely person who seems deeply concerned about your boyfriends credit rating yet you admit this 'joint' debt was built up solely in your name. And yet you are still worrying about the effect it has on your b/f if you go bankrupt.

My advice is tell your b/f to wake up smell the roses and pay back his share of the debt with his large salary. Why the heck should you feel all the pain for your joint spending and then you continue to worry about him??

    oh and good luck!!
  • Hiya.

I had a similar scenario at a similar age - accrued £77k of debts primarly through my (then) BF's spending. No debt in his name, all in mine. Then he stopped paying. I took an IVA and now have 11 months to go.

I'm not saying your BF will default on you, but you need to take stock now. If you do opt for an IVA, it's your debt, and you live alone, so his income/circumstances are irrelevant.

An alternative to IVA would be for your BF to get a couple of 0% credit cards and transfer the balances to them - that way you'd make more progress in paying it off, and he would also be shouldering some of the responsibility.

    Good luck.
Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!
