VW Golf noise problem
Hello.
Recently when I start my engine to my golf, I hear a horrible sort of grinding noise, but only when i start it. Apparently a man who runs a golf place said it is only dust in the starter motor and often happens in golfs. He said a small job of about £40 to remedy the problem.
Does this sound right?

What kind of engine is it? Probably the hydraulic tappets which makes the petrol engines sound like a diesel for the first second or so when first started. Nothing to worry about if it is and is completely normal;)0

Sounds about right to me. Depends if he can fix the existing starter motor - he may find it needs replaced. Ask him if it may turn out it needs a new starter motor and how much this would cost.0

Try bump starting it without using the starter, if there's no noise then it points the finger at the starter motor. If it still does it then it may be a bit of bearing rattle until the oil pressure is up, try winding the starter a couple of times before starting to get some oil round the engine then start.0
