home address being used by someone else

Options
Hi
Sorry if im posting this in the wrong place. Could you move to the correct place please if incorrect?

Im a little concerned about my parents. About a month ago they received a letter to their address but it had someone elses name on it. My mum just shredded this and disposed of it in the bin. Last week they received 2 more, with another 2 different names on. The first one she shredded again until i told her that praps she should check it out some how. The 3 rd letter was from Currys, so my dad took the letter to currys, who advised him that there were 5 people whos names on their system relate to their address. 1 is a previous owner who had it from new. And also my parents name. The letter that came from Currys last week belonged to a foreign gentleman and apparently it was for insurance for a pc. This guy purchased a pc and the very same day another foreign guy also purchased a pc from the same store (different name). my parents address was also used for this PC. I work in finance and cant help but think there is something fraudjalent going on here. Is there anything they can do? Can they report it?
Any helpful advise would be very much apprcaited.
thanks

They could inform the companies involved that their data is incorrect (and the company should correct it under data protection act).

I'm not sure if anything else can be done. If there is suspected fraud i imagine it would be up to Currys to report it.

There could be something fraudulent going on here... maybe CC fraud and when asked for an address they are giving somebody elses.

The good thing though... unless your parents receive a letter addressed to them personally, they are unlikely to have anything to worry about. Credits ratings are based on you as an individual and not based on addresses so that cannot be affected. Nor can they be chased for any debt relating to another person, irrespective of whether or not it's going to their address.

Its annoying and a big inconvenience though. Have them send a letter to Currys explaining nobody at that address is named X. After that bin the letters.

But as said, if its sudden address to them individually, only then do you need to worry.

I have heard of situations of cheque fraud where the new cheque books are being intercepted at a different adress without the addressee knowing.
