Did you know the number when you phoned BT?

If not, dial 17070 and get the number, then phone BT again.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Useless?

If it's a BT line, dialling 17070 should access their automatic circuit identitiy/ringback check system.

It may be that the subscriber had CLI barred. Try 147017070 instead.

Different parts of BT will have different information about the telephone line. Its imposed by Ofcom for competition reasons.

If the line rental is not paid to BT, the front line BT staff will not know the line exists etc., while their engineers may know the line physically exists but not which company gets the line rental etc.

Try calling the BT Customer Options Team on 0800 800 880 and see if they can help you.

If 17070 does not work but there is still a ringtone, it may be an LLU line..

    Regards
    Sunil
