How to save photos from mac to an external HD

As part of my monthly backup I usually transfer everything from my windows pc to an external HD. As I now also have a mac I thought I'd also backup my photos library, but when I try to copy the photos to a folder on the external HD it won't allow me and instead brings up the message: The item "" could not be moved because 'folder on HD' cannot be modified
Can anyone help?

I'd guess it's probably an NTFS permissions issue - assuming the external HD is formatted to NTFS.
I'm no Mac expert, so have never seen the problem, but there seem to be quite a few how-tos on resolving this - e.g.:

probably the drives format is causing a problem, Windows will have formatted your external hard drive as NTFS or FAT32 however mac doesnt like this format, as to the way around this, not entirely sure however i would expect you might have to partition the drive and format a section of it for the mac and leave the other for windows, although 'macs just work' they really dont in a surprising amount of waysDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
thanks guys0

not an answer to your question, but does transfer mean copy or move - ie do you retain 2 copies?!!
