recommend a white noise / humidifier/ fan machine

Just wondering if anyone can recommend one of the above or something similar that will create a background type noise in my house that will make me forget about neighbours noise from outside and or next door?

what noise are they making? If it is unreasonable level/time may be worth talking to them. However, if that is not appropriate for your circumstances, have you tried having the radio on as background noise?

Our house is quite poorly soundproofed so we get to hear all the footfall and crying children etc, expecially in the summer. I know its not totally their fault just the construction of the buildings. Neighbours across the road play their radio in their car v. loud. Would not approach them as they are not the most approachable and have witnessed them having a bit of dust up with another family (couple of yrs ago and not from the area) They don't play it all the time and it is off before 9pm although it is usually when the weather is good.
Someone recommened one of the above machines as a good block to noise.
