Have City Index changed their platform recently? I was with them a couple of years ago and found there were annoying delays in closing my spread bets. I would be interested to find out if they have got any better.

I have also held an IG Index account for 5 years and find that very reliable although their spread on some bets are a little larger than other firms.

I just opened and funded an account with CMC Markets this week and am very pleased with their new platform but it was only my first day trading on there today so will reserve judgement for a month or two.

CMC don't have the best selection as far as I am concerned but still looking round the lists to make up my watchlists. I like IG for covering the triple leveraged Direxion ETF's and will keep both accounts running.

It's 0.9 spread on FTSE & DOW as opposed to 1.0 & 2.0 on IG, I am trying out a monthly bet on the DOW and started off with £5 a point but with a money management system and a bit of luck I could end up betting far more in a few years time so that 1.1 point difference in the spread could be worthwhile.

News seems quite good on CMC too.

IG Index for transfer to your bank if you register your debit card/bank account details

I think most of the SB companies would offer that facility
