I'm looking for a bit of advice regarding a mattress I purchased in January 2011. As it was was part of a display it was offered at a discounted price, but everything looked fine so we went ahead and bought it

It's a Sealy pillow topped mattress (I think it was called romance or something like that) and felt great for a while with good support and just the right amount of squish to make it really comfortable.

However it has sunk substantially on my side, it's especially obvious where my shoulders and hips would lie, with two large indentations that do not recover or bounce back even over time which now makes sleeping rather uncomfortable. I'd guesstimate that theres a hollow about an inch deep and a foot across around the shoulder area and perhaps up to an inch and a half around the hip area and also about a foot across.

I'd like to know where I stand regarding an item that was bought on sale-sold as seen, but that has since developed problems before I contact the shop from which we bought it.

And before anyone says it I'm not heavy, I'm a guy with a 32" waist and weigh about 13 stone max! Which you'd assume they'd the built to cope with.

Have you contacted the seller? If so, what was their response.

You may need to prove that the fault was present at the time of sale, it might be useful to explore the issue on line and see if anyone else has experienced similar problems.

"Sold as seen," doesn't hold much water, in this context. The goods should still conform to the SOGA in terms of fitness for purpose and of merchantable quality.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

You are meant to rotate and flip mattresses regularly, particularly new ones. A pillow topped one can't be flipped but it can still be rotated. That gives the springs a chance to recover, though it sounds too late in your case.
