IE 7 refuses to install

I've been trying to update my computers to IE7, and strangely the install always fails, and gives me a troubleshooting web link.....

Has this happened to anyone else?

Does it validate OK..... If it cant validate your copy of XP is genuine then it wont install

What error code are you getting?? Are you installing from Microsoft update or a complete download of IE7
  • Don't bother and download firefox

Have you got one of the Beta's installed? If so, you need to uninstall it first and then you can proceed with the install (that's what happened to me). I'd 2nd coveredinbees though and say that firefox is far better.

  • Don't bother it's awful. I installed it and changed back to an earlier version of IE. I also use Firefox.
  • My computer blue screened when I tried to install it, I had to rebuild Windows again from scratch to install it. Mind you I hadn't rebuilt it in over two years and so it was probably well needed anyway as it got rid of all the junk that you install/uninstall over the time.

I now have IE7 and FireFix 2 on my machine. IE7 is better than IE6 but FireFox still has the edge I think. Not tried Opera yet. FireFox and Opera also work on my secondary Windows 2000 machine which IE7 doesn't.

I have firefox already, but some websites (especially those in asia) cause too much hassle when I load them in Firefox so still need IE.

Firefox is faster and the extensions are great, but IE has caught up a little with practicality and user interface (for me anyway:j )

In the end instead of turning off Zonealarm, I uninstalled it and the installs went fine :D I didn't have betas installed, and had tried both from windows update, and downloading the install file directly.

Funny thing was that I installed IE7 on another machine fine earlier on, and that had zonealarm as well
  • zonealarm and IE are evil - stick to firefox/opera and kerio for your firewall.

I uninstalled IE7 less than a week after I installed it, I had several problems.
I have never in the 3 years I have had Zone Alarm had a problem...with MSN, Firefox or IE.
