car door not locking :((((

Hi
I just bought a car – scenic and when I got home I realised that one of the rear doors doesn’t lock when I lock the car with the remote central locking. Can anyone suggest how this can be fixed and what could cause it? Thank you

Failure of the motor/solenoid associated with that door, or may be a connection has fallen off. Probably expensive to fix.

You should check the striker plate on the door surround, I've seen these coming loose.

You should check that both key cards are working, another expensive fix.

Good thing you noticed it quickly.

The cheapest fix is to lock it manually and only open it if needed.

the wiring in the door loom rubber has probably broken
renault rear door lock mechanisms do seem to fail though
a strip down will be needed

I'm assuming this was a private sale-in which case no comeback with the vendor?

    Hi,
It might be worth turning the childproof bit on and off, a little black switch on the door.

I suspect their may not be a way of doing this.

I must admit I've never had a Scenic but I'd be amazed if there is no way to manually lock a door.

I suspect that for a competent DIY mechanic who knows the cheapest local scrapyard this would take time but not be all that expensive (probably just a replacement solenoid) but anybody asking here is not likely to be able to fix it easily themselves and the list price for this type of part is usually nothing short of criminal. I'm also guessing it was a private sale or they'd be back at the garage who sold it.

hi, thank you for your replies

it was a private sale yes. I will contact the seller as he said that everything worked perfectly and there is no way the lock did as i checked it all when i got back home. Not sure if i get anywhere. I will try your suggestions. I can only lock the passengers door manually and it only locks that door. when i lock it remotelyeverything else locks apart from that door. i tried the child lock and all and no luck :( i have a friend who - a mechanic so will have a chat with him :(

At the risk of sounding patronising, why didn't you check it out before you bought it?
