So as long as you can receive one SMS message, you may be okay in the future. I don't know if they also need to send messages to confirm payments and things, though.

Just the one time SMS message with a code required to log in from a computer that is not recognised as your normal computer. If you manage to receive the code, when you enter it, it also gives you an option to say that will be your regular computer that you will be accessing your Tesco account from and will save the cookie in your browser so hopefully next time it will let you login without having to receive the SMS message with a new one-time access code.

IIRC they don't need to send you a message to confirm payments and things, you just need to enter your password again if are setting up new payee details.

When I am out and about and not near a computer, I just call them and carry out any transactions via telephone banking (I have also got Tesco's savings account so don't know if you need that to use tel banking).

Thanks Ifts, nice to hear . Mind you Ive just occupied myself looking into alternatives , and I think my phone call now to Mr T will be to close the account , because Skipton is offering a higher rate instant access, 24hr FP (which is fast enough for me in this instance) and a 100k daily outgoing limit. You can also instantly change the nominated bank online. Sounds good to me

ANGLICANPAT - Fair play to you, if you are not happy with the rate/service then vote with your feet.

Ive only stayed with Tesco's because of reasons in post 8 above, otherwise I would have closed my accounts with them too. They only have my money for a couple of minutes before I transfer it to my Derbyshire account.

Probably going to open up a new 2.8% account and close the old 2.9% account once it morphs into a 2.4% account in mid April. Will just keep a small amount in there for emergencies (given there are better rates around).

Interest at 1.25% pa (gross) should be showing in the Tesco account at 31st March 2012. Remember the bonus interest is paid separately on the anniversary of the account opening.

I'm not too happy about the way Tesco now pay the bonus separately.

I'm seriously considering moving to Skipton, as I've always found their service is very good.

I've just closed my old (unused) internet saver. (Spring-cleaning several old accounts.) Opened an instant-access account just to keep the online banking login alive - as mentioned above, it might be handy for paying in in-store from time to time. Plus makes it easy to open a new internet saver if the rates pick up.

Tried to open a new 2.8% account by clicking on the 'apply on-line' red box and after an initial screen it directs you to log in which I did. Then hit a problem that it thought I had only been at my current address for 2 years and 9 months (rather than over 10 years) and wanted me to enter a previous address but wouldn't accept the same address and on-line banking won't let you change the start date for your current address.

So rang up Tesco and they opened up a 2.8% account there and then and transferred the closing balance across and will close the old account. All done without fuss and took less than 5 minutes. Logged in 2 minutes later and new account set up and money transferred and ready for use.

Very impressed with their service :T

Hopefully it means that the considerable issues they had when they switched systems are behind them.

I opened a new 2.8% account online last week, which was glitch free, and the account was available immediately. As far as I can see though, the only way of closing the old account is to phone them, so it might have been simpler to do it your way!
