  • Thanks Twister84 - fingers crossed! I've read a couple of other threads on here which have given me cause for concern but I guess I just have to wait and see....

I will post back here either way, in case others find themselves in the same boat at some stage.

So my credit rating shouldn't be an issue?
The score is of no interest to them. They are interested in the history. Whilst there is a relationship between the score and the history the score includes other things, like your available -v- used credit ratio, which most have no interest in.
  • Hi there,

I was offered a job in RBS and I was rejected based on the pre-screening check. I have never had problems with credit. I have made payments on time, no arrears, etc.

They are not giving me an exact reason for rejection. I am a member of experian and they cannot see anything weird on my credit report expect the fact that I have debt but with no missed/late payments.

I have now contacted equifax to know if they have anything against me under their system.

All you experts, could you please help me with this? I am very much concerned about my career now as I work as a contractor ! :(

    Thanks,
    Your Friend

The RBS screening used to include credit checks, criminal records and complete references over 5 years including proofs of activities of any gaps more than 1 month in length.

Certainly they normally wouldnt tell you which part you'd failed unless it was the case of them being unable to get information from one of your references in which case they tended to give you the chance to assist/ provide other names etc.

If you have no missed payments, no over limits etc on the credit report then it comes down to one of the other two checks

Considering the state of RBS just now you're probably better off not working for them...
  • I will see if Equifax have anything against me but Experian definitely does not.

If RBS is not telling me why I have failed, can it be something really serious or could be simple thing such as previous address not correct?

I believe I can get my criminal record checked myself if I want to? I dont not have any criminal conviction against me either to be honest but will get it checked.

I will let you know how Equifax goes.

Also, my agency says that they have done a credit check however it does not show on credit report that any credit check was done... So they could have done a wrong address or something !

Its lot of question getting raised in my mind ! :(

    Thanks mate !

Unfortunately "it depends" on the level of serious ness and it also depends on the grade of job you've been offered. If it is a volume role where they can fairly easily get another candidate in then they will do less about it if issues come back.

With more specialist/ hard to source people then hiring managers tend to get more involved and will fight to get the candidate they want (assuming it is something relatively minor - no point fighting it if the candidate is an undischarged bankruptee etc)

As per the story in my much earlier post, HR's initial response to the one who had gone backpacking was a simple no but I worked with HR and the candidate to exhaust all possible documents/ proofs they may have/ hr would accept etc and finally got them on board.
  • Hi Inside Insurance,

After investigation, I managed to find out that my RBS credit card has a late payment showing up from June 2010.

Do you think that could be reason for rejection?

Your help is very much appreciated.

Obviously, because they have not given me the reason, I am trying my level best to guess the reason.

Other than above, my credit report is absolutely clean.

This late payment was input by RBS in error in June 2010 which they have accepted to remove now.

    Thanks !!
