RBS Pre-Employment Screening

Hey Guys,
I've applied and been conditionally accepted for a job in the fraud department in the RBS, and they are carrying out a credit check on me.
I've just graduated from university, and obviously have the standard student loans (which I'm 99% don't affect the credit check) and also £1800 of overdraft (£1000 of which is a student overdraft). Apart from that, and also being 5 days late on my phone bill once, my finances are squeaky clean (credit rating "excellent" at over 950). I'm really paranoid at the moment about whether this will be an issue, or will everything be ok?
Also, how long does it take (roughly) for somewhere like RBS to complete this check and also the CRB/reference checks? As apparently I'll get a certificate through the post and so far... I'm still waiting.

If you made a note of the number on the CRB form you can check the status of your CRB application on their website. I gave my form in to work on the Friday and checked status on the Tuesday and it said it had been sent to me. It arrived in the post on the Thursday. So less than a week. The rest I don't know about.0

I worked for a retail bank and it was roughly two weeks though they had a high volume of people to deal with at the time.0

It varies significantly between candidates. 2 weeks is probably around average for a straight forward case but it can take much longer.
I used to work for them a long time ago and on one occasion we had someone starting who had taken a career break to go travelling for 6 months on a self organised backpacking type affair and those doing the vetting wanted proof of the fact that this is all she was doing during these 6 months (eg hotel receipts etc) but as it was 3 years previously it was difficult for her to get.
They arent overly stringent on the credit scoring side, or at least they werent in my day. They are much more looking for defaults, CCJs, IVAs etc than the odd late payment.0 -
They do two (that I know about) levels of screening a "basic" one and "advanced".
Given that you have been asked to get a CRB done I THINK this means it will be an advanced screening they are doing (and given you will be in fraud is what I would expect). I am not quite 100% sure what is involved in this but as someone else has said the problems and delays happen when your address details do not match up.
I would think that your credit score would not be an issue and it is just going to be a waiting game for all the checks to be done.0 -
thanks a lot guys.
So my credit rating shouldn't be an issue?0 -

I only had to do a basic screening not enhanced, but I can not see them doing any more credit checks with the enhanced, only background address checks etc.0 -
I worked until last week in the Finance industry for many years and although our HR team were very slow on credit checks... we were often expecting new staff to be on training courses we d booked before the checks came through I am sure yours will be fine. the main problem would be with CCJs Bancruptcy IVA . Don t stress!0

Hi all
Sorry to hijack this thread. I have just been offered a position with RBS. My credit history here in the UK is good, I've been working here for 19 months.
My credit history in my home country isn't great. I've successfully finished paying off 2 loans in the last year (both were about 3 years in total duration and I didn't miss any payments) and I have one due to be paid off soon. I missed one payment on that when I was changing jobs 3 years ago. I also have a credit card where I have missed a number of payments over the years. I have no judgments against me. I also have an overdraft there which I am paying off month by month.
Is RBS likely to check previous countries I have lived in? Apologies if this is a very naive or stupid question!
Thanks!0 -
Dunno, but based on what you've said, you should be fine.Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion
