??dodgy MOT??? help

hiya,

can someone help please with what i do?

so, bought a new car yesterday but only picked it up today as the man/ garage i bought it from was getting the mot sorted for me. originally it was £600 without mot but he said he could ge it through its mot but would have to charge me £900, si i thought that would be great better than buying a car and getting it mot'd myself and finding out it needed scrapping or somthing!

so picked it up today and drove home etc, thought exhaugst sounded a little loud and the handbrake seemed really slack, so i thought i would check the cars mot's history on direct gov, and apparently on the 5th july 2011 the car failed its mot on the following:
Offside Windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively (8.2.2)

Nearside Headlamp aim too low (1.8)

Offside Headlamp aim too low (1.8)

Nearside Front position lamp(s) not working (1.1.A.2b)

Offside Front position lamp(s) excessively damaged so that it is not visible from a reasonable distance (1.1.A.2b)

Front pipe Exhaust system not adequately supported (7.1.1b)

Center section Exhaust has a major leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2a)

Emissions not tested (7.0)

Nearside Rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.A.7a)

Offside Rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.A.7a)

Parking brake efficiency below requirements (3.7.A.10) **DANGEROUS**

the man told me all that needed fixing was the track rod ends!

can someone tell me what i do now as i knew the exhaust and handbrake wasnt right by the time i got home, so now im thingking has he paid someone to do a dodgy mot cert as most of this work has not been done.

thanks

Well if he wanted £300 to get it through the MoT it obviously needed more than just track rod ends...
Alarm bells should have rung when he upped the price from £600 to £900 to get it through an MoT... a proper garage would never have even tried to sell it without MoT, so you know that for next time.

Depends what you want to do, I'd start with reading the advice on the back of the mot certificate.

suggest your first call is to the mot place in the morning
they may be keener than you to buy this car off you if an employee has done a dodgy test
they have plenty to lose if it is indeed dodgy
of course the jobs might all have been done the handbrake passed what is very poor limits and the welding broke off the pipe once tested
£600 sounds like it was a heap to begin with and the failure sheet reinforces this belief
£300 to sort it would certainly make me run away
    but there you go

i see pendulum swung into action as i tipped :-)

Take it for a pre MOT check and see what they say.

    hi,

yes, it has a vaild mot cert now but i dont trust it with the exhaust being as loud as it is and on a bank the car doesnt even stop it just rolls.

Take it to the garage who did the MOT test and talk to the manager/owner and seek their advice. Depending on what they say take the car back to the dealer and ask for your money back. Google trading standards and phone or email them for advice if the dealer doesn't give you your money back. Hope you get it sorted.
