0844 ACCESS NO.s SCAM? SCAM? SCAM?

Please read this if you use the 0844 access numbers to dial overseas............
I thought this was just happening me???
A copule of times i have used 0844Calls and CheapestCalls to dial abroad. After dialing the access number and entering the number i wanted to call, it starts to ring, someone speaking that countries language answers and says hang on i will just get them. Then you can hear somone running to find the person you were calling. After a few seconds the line goes dead.
This has happened on two different calls now and must be a scam, i asked the person i was calling the first time it happened who that was answering their phone, they had no idea what i was talking about, they had the phone with them all the time and it never rang at all.
This has happened to me on two completely different calls, exactly the same thing.
It must be a scam to get you to call back as it costs 12.5p every time you call them 0844 numbers.
I really want to hear from other people this may have happened to......

The call connection fee you mention is made by your calls provider and they are not the same as the 0844 indirect access provider.
Hence, annoying but not a scam.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
The moment you're connected to the 0844 access number you're paying BT immediately, so if the person you're calling is engaged or out,or you misdial you still pay.0
