cant pay credit card this month

I cant pay my card minimum payment this month. I m thinking of calling them to see what my options are but I wondered if anyone has any advice before I do. What kind of response can I expect from them? What do card companies offer, if anything, in the first instance?

Why don't you reprioritise and make the mimimum payment whilst at the same time using the credit card to settle another commitment.

MBNA will immediately want to put you on their "debt management plan", send you forms to complete about your incomings/outgoings, and put an adverse note on your credit records. (My partner found that out when they merely asked if they could revert to their former, pre 1 April changes, minimum payment rate, having read a "Which Online" article which implied that reverting back to lower min payments would be possible with MBNA as they weren't obliged to put in the new rules for existing cardholders, only new ones). MBNA haven't budged on reducing the minimum payments yet.
Other card companies may be more reasonable (??).
If you haven't already done so, seek advice from somewhere like the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (NB it's possible to send them a confidential message from this MSE site - another MSE forum member told me about that so I was able to send CCCS a detailed email and get a good and helpful response, or you can check their website). If you need any more info, send me a private message and I'll forward more information.

They might be able to make an arrangement with you, or a promise to pay at a later date.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.
