Geekette? Ooops. I've been thinking of you as male. Sorry. "Hurdler" isn't very gender specific. I'm deep into spreadsheet-geekery, and admit a fair amount of Star-Trek-geekery, but with LOTR I've only read the books rather than seen the films. Sadly single-parenthood and grown-up films don't mix well. Always nice to meet other geekettes of whatever kind, though.

Do you speak Elvish? I know someone who does :D
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Heh - yes a geekette through and through, me - and I see that Hurdler isn't perhaps the clearest handle!!! Funnily enough my mum hated me hurdling - always said she thought it was unladylike! :j

Oh I have on my Xmas list the MAHUSIVE Star Trek Bluray box set - my aged ma keeps saying "I want to learn google and buying things" - I *think* she means buying things from the interweb so I might teach her to order that as my Xmas pressie!!! She flirted with the Internet when she bought me a satnav, but she gets bored of the interweb quite quickly! She is, however, completely fascinated by my iPad!! Go figure!

I try to read LOTR but I do struggle with it. I will presevere though, and Lois - I already bow go your spreadsheet-geekery - I checked out your one you posted on Googledocs and thought it was great!!

Gallygirl - I love hearing the Elvish - watching some of the special features has been fascinating in terms of how some of the cast have taken to it ...

very anxious drive via the North Circular (despite warnings - my own stupid fault - I missed the turnoff for the M25 and found myself just following the TomTom as I am still learning the route to & from the Watford office).
Awful moments in the office earlier when a round of sirens caused everyone to hush ...

things quite in town at the moment but everywhere is shutting early...
The rioters are saying they're taking it out on "the rich"... well I might own a property but I am not rich. And I have worked DAMN HARD for what I have. So what the **** gives them the right to ruin people's livelihoods when they have hardly worked a day in their life?

I was pretty anxious last night as I live not far away from a rougher part of the local neighbourhood and in the summer months, the kids go a bit crazy, roaming the alleyways and generally scaring up a bit of mischief.

I hope everyone stays safe in these troubling times...

After my local gym shut early yesterday I was all set to go to the gym tonight but cracked my knee against the bedpost and it's come up something chronic!!! Hobbling about grumpy now and to cap it all I have to be in the city all day tomorrow. Flying solo in a customer meeting for the first time in my new job!!!

Abandoned my now 2-day old noodles for comfort food of cheesy sweet potato mash.

Will return to my Blu-ray fest and Eve Online to sulk.

And can I just add MEHHHh!!!!

    [/grump]

I am ****ing furious... My manager told me that my company's HR is ****ing useless and he is not kidding.Three weeks in and they say that they had a problem with my NI number, and need it... payroll cut was probably the end of last week.
So it's doubtful I will get paid this month.

I am so bloody angry ... I have bloody thrown myself into this job and worked my damn tail off and they f*** this up and don't bother to ask for it now?
I submitted my details on 12th July, and my P45 on my second day - there is NO GODDAMN excuse for them to leave it this long.
So that will probably kibosh completely my plans to throw a load of money into my mortgage now before the recalculation date.

    Bloody idiots.

All of the best laid plans can go to waste. It will have been sat on someones desk for a week...then been lost and forgotten and they will have suddenly remembered. Human nature unfortunately =(

This is why people say to keep a few months savings for that "rainy day". No excuse for it though!!
