Windows 7 Not Genuine

If you DO have the sticker
try the CD key when it asks you. If it does not work (which i suspect it won't) then get on to Currys
They created the problem.
Then i suggest reporting it to Microsoft
Just tell them that the laptops is your daughters and it was taken in for repair to a currys store.
When it came back you both could not see any problems at first but now it's asking for "product key".
Explain you're not technically minded and don't know how it happened.
At worst they say "buy a legit copy".
Most probibly they send out a legit version for free and say to use the product key on the base of the laptop.
At best they send you out a more advanced version (like from "Win 7 Home Basic" to "Win 7 Ultimate).
But see what curry's say first...Laters

The problem is much easier to fix than suggested. I'm just waiting for feedback from the OP.0

2. Press ENTER on your Keyboard and double click on the file
3. Select your Country.
4. Brings up the Phone Activation option
Phone the numbre and follow the instructions given (it's a free call) all streight forward really0 -
Thank you for all your replies on this but I have sent an email to Currys and will have a go with them as I think they should know about it.
I'm a bit nervous about downloading other programmes so I'll try this route first (I know, not a techie at all!)August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.0 -

You would be better off listening to us, than to hand your machine over to those who didn't complete the job properly in the first place.
It's all a bit pointless asking for advice and then ignoring it because you are nervous.
None of the solutions posted here have the capability to harm your machine in any way.
In fact, if you followed my instruction I would be able to tell you exactly where the problem lies.
Then at least you would not be dependent on someone at Currys to give you the correct diagnosis.
They've hardly done a good job thus far.0 -
Well, yes, but I asked a question, read the replies and in the end decided to start with Curry's because they caused me the problem.
When I said 'I think they should know about it' I wasn't praising their expertise, I was saying they should know they have messed me about.
Anyway, I may well be coming back to this thread if I don't make any progress.
I am nervous about computers/software because as far as I'm concerned these things are out to get me but I am slowly trying to get a bit more knowledgeable.August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.0 -
Anyway, I hope that they do the job properly this time. Get your daughter to make a copy of her important data before giving the machine back to Currys. But since it is out of warranty, I imagine they might ask as to why you didn't alert them sooner.0

Hopefully you won't have to take it back to them, they should just give you a valid activation code.0

Yes. I've got a phone number now and that's what I'm hoping.August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.0
