I remember when I was a little girl yep, once upon a time) I loved going to jumble sales etc to hunt for clothes for my dolls. I also then enjoyed washing them by hand when I got them home - you'd never have guessed how allergic to housework I'd become as an adult!!!
My most prized posession was a cradle my grandad made for my doll - so,so special because he'd made it. Even now I remember him sneaking to the shed at the bottom of the garden to work on his 'secret' project (I lived with my grandparents)
I also took great pride in knitting a blanket for my doll - I can't recall for sure how old I was, but I think I must've been about six. Now I can't knit a thing!

  • My 11yo dd has taken an interest in sewing clothes for her dolls/build-a-bear. She has plenty of old curtains and bed sheets to practice with, and I can show her the basics on the sewing machine. However, we are stuck for patterns - can anyone help please?!

    TIA

what size are u dolls? are we talking like barbie?
  • The build-a-bear is about 14 inches tall - a kind of teddy thing. The dolls are baby-born type thing, so about the same size.

Simplicity do quite a lot of dolls patterns. Not for free, alas, but you can often get them quite cheaply if you buy them from the US (many of them are downloads so no postage or waiting time). Have a look at this link for example. If you are going to do lots of this, then it may well be worth your while investing a little in some base patterns.

  • Hi

Hope someone can help or point me in the right direction.

My friends little boy is desperate for a Ken doll (as in Barbie & Ken), we are sorting that out for him, but I would like to be able to make some changes of clothes for him.

Anyone know where I can get patterns for some?

    TIA
