Hugely Reduced Boot Times

My oldest PC is from 2003, it runs Windows 7 quite well but after regular use it took what seemed ages to boot.

A few months ago I began to trial Soluto, some free software which reduces boot times.

The latest beta is available and I have to say it is very impressive, for an old P4 system with only 1gb of ram stock full of music/video/pics and a full MS Office Suite it boots from cold to being able to use the internet in 2mins flat.

It takes 20mins to set it up, makes its own suggestions about what you should do and tells you what others users have done so you can make informed decisions about the software you want to run when the on button is pressed.

Coupled with a regular CCleaner and defrag, Soluto has kept my old PC ticking along nicely.

It's free and won't break your computer.

Alternatively use closed' method of speeding up a slow PC as recommended on these forums.

Moderators can we please have this method as a sticky?

2 mins flat is quite slow, should be around 40 seconds - post a hijackthis log if you want to see if it can be reduced further

I'd uninstall it when you've finished with it, as ironically it may be slowing your boot, and phoning home your config

I agree closed. I followed your guide recently when setting up a ten year old HP Brio for a friend, 1.2GHz Celeron with 512Mb (sdram pc 133MHz). It boots quickly and can access the internet in well under a minute. It's only really an internet machine, but having said that it runs as sweet as a nut, thanks closed :T
