What does rate 4 mean on an ECO7 meter?

Modern E7 meters have a rate 1 and rate 4. I think rate 1 is day and rate 4 is night but it might be the other way round

To work out which is the day rate take 2 sets of readings a few hours apart during the day and whichever moves is the day rate.
