is it true about the ford fiesta econetic
Hi,
I recently bought a ford fiesta econetic, and the salesman there was like it gives upto 70mpg. well i have gone through the ford website, or any other car site it shows, 76mpg(combined) 60mpg urban. but here i am getting 46 mpg combined. well is there any problem with my car or is it just misleading, then why are these called econetic only because they have £0 road tax. the ford site is the most misleading then, some action has to be taken

I take all these manufacturers figures with a pinch of salt, and go on owners forums before I buy a car, people are more honest on them.
In your case though, 46MPG is a long way from 70MPG, so it may be worth having the car checked over.0 -
It all depends on how you drive; what speed you go, how quickly you accelerate, how you break, how much weight is in the car, tyre pressure etc etc...
Getting the mpg quoted as a maximum is nigh on impossible, unless you replicate it on a test track, driving at the optimum speed...
The quoted combined Mmpg for my car is 51.8, and over the last 1200 miles I have an average of 42.9mpg. I remember when I was doing more motorway miles, I was averaging around 46mpg...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Some manufacturers are worse than others, but ALL "massage" the figures a little. Fuel economy is very big selling point right now.
When they test the cars for fuel economy, they do so on rolling roads, there's no wind, no rain, no hills, all the electrics off, the car might in some circumstances have had parts of it's interior removed.
They may even test a car's economy before they make the adjustments to meet EU noise/emission standards.
Oh and it's not about driving slowly, it's about finding the cars most efficient speed. There are an awful lot of people dawdling about now on the theory of saving fuel, but doing 45 in 4th isn't as economical doing 50+ in 5th.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

thanx for the reply guys but i would have taken a petrol vehicle, i would have got almost the same mpg, now i feel i did a mistake selling off my honda civic, they quoted it would give me 35mpg urban, and it used to give me the exact mpg. But my problem is how do I compaint against the misleading site0

MPG figures are purely for comparison purposes, not an indication of what YOUR car will do as we all drive cars differently.
Manufactuers are now very good at designing cars to get the best results, unfortunately we don't drive like that.
For instance. Does your econetic have stop start? Do you use it at every opportunity?0 -
Does it tell you when to change gear, are you doing this?
Is it brand new? My new car is getting better MPG all the time up to 8000 miles now (thats not per gallon BTW).
They designed the car to pass the test, you can't complain about that but you should be able to get closer when doing longer runs in free flowing traffic.0 -

Ah, Honda.... Well, the Japanese are VERY good at hiding the truth, saying things that can be taken in 100 different ways and avoiding tricky questions, BUT they won't actually knowingly lie.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Eco or Hybrid cars are often the worst for claimed v actual MPG figures.
Can you take any action? No. Why? Because it's the figure produced when independently tested on a rolling road. All cars are tested in the same manner to provide a fair comparison.
Also manufacturers will often tweak/tune an engine to produce the best MPG possible on the rolling road rather than producing the best MPG in real life. The man without a signature.0 -

Er... he's saying Honda were spot on. They quoted 35mpg and it did 35mpg. The problem is with a Ford....
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
er, I don't think cars are tested on a rolling road any more for mpg, IIRC its all done by computer simulation now.0
