Hello, I've been very unlucky and my debit card has been stolen and the thieves used it by spending £2000 on electronics, in Bangkok, Thailand during one hour period.
I have no idea if I have any rights to complain, but I think i should, because:
a) i didn't notify barclays that I will travel to Thailand, because i was NEVER going to buy online with that card in Bangkok or use it in any other way. I thought they would block any big/multiple purchases automatically because I WASN't in Thailand according to their information!
b) they always block my card if I want to buy flights that cost more than £1000. Why wouldn't they do it this time??
c) I tried to cancel my card after it has been stolen, but I had to spell my surname 10 times to 5 different advisers and they couldn't locate me on the system, even though I gave them my post code correctly, so they said to call later when I find out my account number. It took me all day, and that was the time when all my money has been stolen.
d) when I buy online, usually Barclays message pops out telling me to write some letters of my password. Why on earth the thieves were able to buy so much stuff and barclays didn't stop them??
I was advised to call barclays again in a few days to check if the payments are cleared through and who recieved the payments. They said 'maybe' i could get back my money. I really hope so, because for a student it's a lot of money!
Thank you for any info, sorry if it's in the wrong forum

Barclays ought to be able to claim it all back using the chargeback facility. You will need to dispute the transactions. Unless you left your PIN number with your card in some way, you should get your money back. If you were negligent with your PIN then it may be a different story but Barclays should still be able to chargeback the transactions and recover the money.
Others will tell you how to dispute these charges.0
