You may work out from the title that it's a question you've read and sen answered before, in which case ignore it.

You may not work it out until you open it and read a bit of it, then close it and ignore it.

Lots of others will be glad to help, by replying to posts you think are repeats, you are your own worst enemy (if you are bothered by repeats) because you are bumping it to the top.

This was karenmc first post and I don't think much of MMD response, if that's the best he can do he's better off keeping out.

I've been here long enough and I wouldn't know what to search for to answer karenmc's question, so it's very understandable for her to post this question.

The post was answered correctly before MMD, and MMD did not provide any direct help at all abraisively or otherwise.

MMD was the first person to suggest the OP could easily have found the information out by searching the forum. The OP may not have even realised that was possible. I don't think anyone should be asked to refrain from posting their opinions on this forum, even if they may come across as rude by some people at times.

In any case, I really don't think singling out and attacking someone for being rude does much for your ascent to the moral high ground.

But offered no suggestions on search terms

I disagree with your "no response" stance for Masonic's reason - threads containing defective logic will remain uncorrected if those who have seen them before choose to ignore them.

I didn't suggest search terms because I wouldn't be so condescending - not surprisingly, putting "regular saver" into the main site search produces (as the second article in the list) the article referred to earlier, in which Martin refers to the "silly logic" of people who think what the original poster thinks about regular savings interest rates.

Whilst Martin may think there is no such thing as a silly question (and I don't really agree - it's silly to re-raise something silly which has already been discussed), there is certainly silly logic and that is what is unfortunately being applied by some people to regular savings accounts.

For the avoidance of doubt, people should search the main site, and then the chat forum. And I admit that the chat forum search is appalling - "con" for example finds every word containing the letters "con" which is not very helpful.

I often report duplicate threads as such to the moderators for merging - this is the best way to address Wig's point about bumping threads, but the bumping has already been done (in the first instance) by the person re-raising the original issue.

But you are condescending enough to highlight and rub in the silly logic/silly question parts aren't you?

So don't reply just refer it for a merger if you feel so strongly about it. Meanwhile others more helpful will just get on and answer the question.

As this subject has been posted dozens* of times before, almost always by new site members, can I suggest that you do a search before posting repetitive questions?

    Thanks

    MMD :)

    * (OK, probably an exaggeration, but it feels like it)

That's a bit thick, isn't it? I visit this site from time to time and have never seen anyone mention their confusion over this topic before. I doubt whether many people would have the time or would want to go to the hassle of doing searches to see whether the question they were about to ask was repetitive - and a new poster will probably not be familiar with the system for searching a forum.

Obviously other people don't object to responding to this new poster's message. If you do, then stay away from the discussion. It is not your business to tell other people what they should or should not post here.

Think before you post - especially when you are addressing a relatively new member of a forum. Your suggestion didn't come across too well.

Alas, you're probably right, but the considerate ones do.

In any case, in the first link on the main forum page entitled: Welcome New MoneySavers: Do read this Martin suggests:
Ask a question or start a discussion Before you do that, do check your topic hasn’t already been covered, either by scanning through the threads or using the search function (see below).
    <snip>

It's always worth checking to see if the information you are looking for is already on the site.
Search the main site: On the home page https://www.moneysavingexpert.com you will find search box at the top of the page. Above that is a drop-down menu. Here you can choose to search either the main site or the forum. Simply tap in one or two words that are relevant and all the articles should appear – in the main site search if you “put a phrase in speech marks” then it does an ‘exact match’ search.

Check the Regular Q&A section. Your question may already be covered there. Just go to http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/qas.phtml This is due to be updated soon.

Search the Chat/Discussion boards. Someone may have already asked a similar question. To check use the search engine at the top of this page. It is a powerful search tool with many options. If the subject is similar, why not continue that discussion and put your question/suggestion there rather than starting a new one.
