iPhone app development

Hi there,

Not sure if this is the right forum, but my dilemma is as follows.

I have a idea for an iphone app, but no financial backing to build it.

I have looked at the usual channels (pph etc), but the cost seems to be astronomical.

I remember reading somewhere that there are companies who build your apps for free based on a revenue share.

Does anyone have any idea who these companies may be?

I appreciate your input and thank you in advance for your assistance.

Apart from buying a mac and a few books on how to code in the language... and the registration fee... there's no major cost.

Biggest cost you would face is hiring someone..

Oh and Apple take a cut of the price you charge for the app!
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!
  • Unfortunately I am not a programmer so woudl be completely lost.

Have you heard of these companies that build the app for you, but split the profits 50/50...

I cant seem to find on google, but my not be searching the right terminology
  • How complex an app are we talking about here, able to garnish us with any details? Obviously you won't want to disclose too much, but a rough idea would help.

Very simple really. User types in a search box and the app queries a database and then responds with the result.
  • The back-end of that style of app is straight forward. You query an SQLite DB, it responds, you parse the response.

I've done no "iApp" development so I don't know how complicated it is to use their SDK, but the process is straight forward.

If you're interested in persuing the coding yourself, read up on the Objective-C language and SQLite database access.

You dont have to have a mac to code iOS apps - though obviously Apple prefer you to.

There are occasionally developers willing to do a deal on revenue/ profit share but they tend to be fairly rare and not always of the best quality. Ultimately time is money and if they have to devote 10 days to doing this its 10 days they can't be getting a paying client where as your financial risk is next to nil.
  • Do you know the names of any of these revenue share companies?
  • A friend of mine has recently used a service called Kickstarter, to try to get people to help raise money to create a comic. You could potentially do the same... get people to support the idea, pledge some cash, and if you get the target amount, hire a freelancer from peopleperhour - The site is at kickstarter dot com

May not be appropriate, but thought I'd mention it as an option for you to consider.

you could use fundedapps.com. You pay £2 to submit your idea and if they like it they will develop it and market it and you get 25% of the profits.

Thanks for the above, but i believe from their Ts and Cs they are only for the US market
