Bathroom Unit Solution

Suggestions please...have new bathroom with walnut off-floor bathroom units and only matching 2 drawer unit in the range had predrilled hole on top for a sink to sit. My idea was to cover top with piece of black granite or similar. There is a raised lip at front edge of unit and granite is too deep, the depth needs to be 8-9mm. Have thought of buying a piece of splashback, worktop; (checked out good link on making your own glass splashback!), all edges need to be neat as will be on show. Am asking for other ideas. Dimensions are: 590mm x 36mm x 8mm. Many thanks.
