Oak Kitchen Table Protection

Wondering if anyone can offer me some advice?
I bought a solid Oak table and 2 benches for my kitchen. However, the table is easily marked with the slightest thing.
We are wondering if it's possible to protect the table somehow by applying a layer of something so that it won't mark.
Here is a picture of it now, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You have loads of choices depending on how water proof you want it and how often you want to treat it.
You could just use Olive Oil on it to giving it several coats of http://www.ronseal.co.uk/products/yacht-varnish0 -

Will something like this alter the color of the table at all ?0 -
Is it not already finished with varnish or similar? That must be quite unusual.
We have a solid beech top on our table and use Danish Oil on it. You need 2 or 3 coats with sanding between coats. You should treat the whole table, especially the underside of the top too.
It is colourless, but the liquid soaking into the wood will darken it slightly.
It gives a very nice "satin" finish IMHO.0
