We have moved but letting agents want keys before tenancy is up

Have you checked your contract about leaving the property empty? The majority of Tenancy Contracts will state you must inform the LL if you intend the leave the property empty for more than 14 days. This is due to a clause in their insurance.
Again, this is irrelevant as they can have no way to know what the T does with the flat without gaining improper entry.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
It will if the property was broken into between now and the end of the tenancy as the Tenant will be in breach of their contract, not to mentioning voiding the LL's insurnaceTurning our clutter to top up our house deposit: £3000/£303.05 we're on our way!0

LL still couldn't prove the length of time the property was unoccupied. Could have been less than 24 hours as far as they are concerned. T could put a box of worthless junk in one room, then claim on insurance if that got stolen, claiming they were still using the property to store possessions during the move, and that they had been going to the property a number of times every week to collect more items as well as clean up for the end of the tenancy.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0

WRITE to the LA asking if they are happy to accept your early termination and return of the keys (and subsequent rent refund/reduction) or if they would prefer for you to abide by the contracted terms and end date (and cancel all viewings/key returns until after the end of the tenancy and final check out). Let them decide.0
