Halifax credit card faster payments...Current account

Hi all

im sure about a year ago....When i logged into my Halifax accounts i could select my Halifax credit card and pay direct from my current account.

However it seems that option is no longer available....I need to set up a bill transfer from my current account to my halifax account with sort code and acct number etc..

No problem i thought....And surely it would be a "faster payment" ?

Alas not....tried to make a payment just now and it says it cannot be done via faster payments and will leave my account tomorra and possibly take 3 days to get there....

SHOCKING

  • halifax have updated the website along with the account servicing. i think all former services will be brought back online later this year. at the moment alot of the servies that were available aren't including the one you mentioned.

Hi daz. I actually have the same problem. When I spoke with Halifax about it they told me that it was because I had closed my credit card account (which I still owe money on).
The easiest way to deal with this is to just set up new payment to your credit card in the tab on the right hand side (oddly that was still on my list), and send it "as soon as possible" for a faster payment to be made (putting todays date down oddly doesn't do it as a faster payment).
Debt at worst: £33000 (Feb 2011). Present debt: £25610 (Apr 2012)
    Lloyds old (22.4%) = 560 (Dec 2012)

The Halifax credit card sort codes aren't faster payment-enabled (even now!) If you pay by BACS transfer though it seems to credit to the account just 1 (working) day later - so although the payment method advises it takes '3 working days' it actually takes one less day that that in practice.

  • The Halifax have been doing some stupid things with their current accounts recently, which I'm led to believe is because of their merger with LLoyds TSB.

Previously, if you discovered you had a DD going out tomorrow, and there wasn't enough money in your account to cover it, you could nip down to a Halifax Cash machine and put in enough cash to cover it, and your DD would go through. Now you can't do this.

Plus, at their branches now, you have to fill in pieces of paper to put in or take out cash or cheques instead of just handing in your card. Goodness knows how many rain forests are being cut down to provide all this extra paper - the Halifax must be using tons of it when they never used any. Utterly stupid!

  • I know that if you had previously made a payment from your current account to the credit card and saved it as a payment option it still lets you and it goes out the day that you request and appears same day on your halifax credit card account. But the in branch changes are in my opinion more to do with cutting staff numbers and encourage people to use the self service terminals in the bank.

Normally id just go into a branch with my card and some cash and hand over both at counter and get receipt and job done.....
In total about 90secs at counter.

Went in a while ago and que was outta door and i thought ...DAMM what the hell is happening here. However i had to pay in that day otherwise payment would have been late.

It seems i need to fill in a bit of paper with sort code and account number !!! What a complete waste....

Anyways made a bill payment yesterday and will see how long it takes it hit my account....hopefully before the weekend ???

I was in my local Halifax this morning, and was told that they are discontinuing the paper paying in and withdrawl system in the near future.

We'll just have to wait and see then.

I got a letter today, they are starting to accept FPs to the Clarity CC account in late November apparently.
