Sky - contract query

Options
Morning,

I'm hoping someone with some knowledge of contract law will see this!

I moved home a few months ago and decided to give Sky a try after previously being with Virgin Media.

Sky installed the dish & box and ran an internal phone line from the main entry point.

However - the problem is that the phone line to the house is poor quality meaning we have no useful telephone service and the broadband is patchy. We can't use on demand tv services either.

So the question is - is Sky failing to provide a service and therefore not fulfilling their part of the contract? Or, are they not responsible for the phone line to the house at all?

Their customer service is terrible and I've given up trying to sort it out with them, so I'd like to know if I can threaten to cancel the service and not be in breach of contract myself?

Thanks in advance

Rob

No, Sky provide you with TV and not a phone line. BT provide your phone line

are you sure it's not just a dodgy microfilter on the extension lead?
  • I'm sure it's not, have tried two microfilters. Phone line crackles even when a basic telephone is plugged in to the test socket.

if the phone line crackles at the entry point, take the cover off and try the master socket. If you get the same issue then you'll need BT to check your line
  • ok thanks, been through it all several times with Sky adviser but not getting anywhere. I guess they've washed their hands of it!

OP, you haven't actually stated who provides your Broadband service and who provides your telephone line rental?

Whomever you pay line rental is responsible.

Without sight of the contract, it is difficult to comment given the small print, interpretation, use/misuse/omision/inclusion of even a singular word let alone sentence etc however there is the element of goods/services being fit for purpose and there is loads of info in consumer rights forum

Is your phone exchange LLU? And as others have said who is your line provider?
