Computer keeps turning itself on

My computer keeps randomly turning itself on, I did'nt notice this happening before my good lady bought me a wireless keyboard and mouse, and since then the bleeding thing keeps doing it's own thing.

Has anybody got any ideas why or how rto remedy this issue.

Thanks for now

  • You need to go through your settings as it would appear that some device is enabled to start the computer.

    Control Panel - keyboard - double click - hardware - properties - power management

    Look in Bios for keyboard power-on settings and disable. You may also have a jumper to set on your mainboard. If you can't fix it, post your mainboard Model No here. Also, is the new Kb transmitter connected via USB or the Kb and Mouse ports. If USB, your bios may be set to allow USB to power on PC.

  • you need to look in the bios settings for wake on lan, wake on ring.. by hitting a key at bootup.. del/F1/F2/esc or similar, it should come on screen when you first switch it on.

    If your keyboard is wireless it maybe that the receiver is picking up a stray signal which it is interpretting as keyboard input.

    "LAN" = Local Area Network.
    "Wake on LAN" = A setting in the BIOS which will enable the PC to "Wake" (note: not turn on) from Stand By when it percieves a message from another computer.
    If the computer is waking when the phone rings there is a good probability that it has been configured as a fax machine, not the case here.

    I suggest going into the BIOS and noting the settings for LAN.
