I apologise beforehand if this question is silly, I know what I want to do but no idea how to get there (or even if I can)!

I've got some old photos (film not digital) that I've put into an album. I want to scan one of them so I can use on a Moon Pig birthday card for my nephew's 21st.

Trouble is, the one I want to use is on a page with several other pics. I can't remove the one I want without tearing it (must have used superglue :(). So I've scanned the whole page but now I just want to extract the one. Hope this makes sense.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible, how, which software do I need and can I get it free e.g. 30 day trial ?

Thank you so much.

You can do it with paint (free with windows), just open the picture & crop

    One option

Use irfanview, get the plug ins as well, install both, untick any additional programmes if offered. It will ask which images you want irfanview to open, no need to select any. To open the image with irfanview, right click it then click open with and then select irfanview

    http://www.irfanview.com/

Open the image, put the cursor arrow at a point you want to use, for example top left of the part you want, click and hold the left mouse button so you get a cross, move the mouse so that it includes the part you want, release the mouse button.

Click edit, click crop selection, click file, click save as, name the file and note where it is saving to

If you have Windows 7 the built-in Windows Snipping Tool will do what you want.

another good from google... picaza....You can use it for free, cropping, editing, saving to the internet

+1 for Picasa, simple and easy to use.

Remember that you have to save or export the picture after you have edited it.

Two good online, free image editors

    http://www.webresizer.com/resizer/

    http://www.picresize.com/index.php?rm=common_resize&effects=1

I use the first one most of the time, but if an image is large (over 5MB) I use the 2nd one to reduce it, then go back to the first.

It's dead easy to use ... if I can get the hang of it .. anybody can:rotfl:
  • A free solution would be the GIMP. Powerful software if you're interested in image manipulation. If it is purely for this one project, then I'd go with one of the online solutions mentioned above.

Another couple of suggestions for quick online fixes.

https://www.photoshop.com (not to be confused with Adobe's full photoshop suite, this is just a basic free online editor)

https://www.pixlr.com (another free cloud based tool that performs basic editing)
