How to do London on the cheap?

  • It seems that most of (if not all of) the 2 for 1 with Oyster card offers are over for this year. So; my advice would be to just buy a daily travelcard - if you are planning to do some tube, train and, bus travel. You might want to know that the daily buspass is £3.50 and is valid until 4.30 A.M. the next day, and this is valid all over london - individual bus fares are going up to £2 on the 7th January. Travelling around London by bus is fine for someone like me (it's part of job, sometimes) but for people who don't know London well - it's a bit of challenge. That's why most would recommend a travelcard. By the way, Travelcard is valid until 4.30 A.M. next day as well.
The Oyster is good if you, or somebody you know (it's transferable) plans to visit London regularly.
All of these passes can be bought from Underground stations, and lots of newsagents.

So, you just show the voucher with the train ticket at the attraction and then you can buy two for the price of one???. Also, does this include the tube tickets?? So if i buy a zone 1 pass which i obviously will anyway then this will count.

    Thanks
yep..really is as simple as that.. tube only or bus only isn't any good...has to have an element of rail in it, so a one day travel card (or any single journey ticket) is fine.
  • I agree that planning travel on London buses can be difficult, but you have found This wonderful site, haven't you? :)
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

I Have found this site, and here is the 'but,' or, 'buts' The routes they send you on are sometimes extraordinary. Another 'but' is this; when you are on holiday, you sometimes just want to get going; the tube delivers you close, or sort of close to where you want to go. You look at the map and you see; Covent Garden, Knightsbridge, Tower Hill, Monument, and so on.
Having said all that, I would recommend the TFL site and the journey planner; 90% of the time,(random figure plucked out of the sky + experience, and knowledge) it will get there in the most efficient way.
Hey! just wondering around on the bus (except on Oxford Street) is a great way to pass the time - just wondering around London is a great way to pass the time; however you do it*.

*Except by car - of course!

Southampton - Waterloo via Megatrain £1 going £1.75 coming back

London Liverpool St Travelodge £10 family room search when £15 deals come out - also they have a very good Next shop opposite the station that had loads of stuff not found in Oxford St.

London Dominion Theatre Thursday Matinee - We Will Rock You tickets £20 at Discount booth Leicester Square.

Itinery also included free visits to Tate Modern and other museums but ended up shopping for more bargains which we got as above in Next.

    Hi Toozie,

How did you manage to get free Hamley's bears - I can't see anything about that mentioned on the site ?

Am thinking about the London pass and this would make a difference.

    Thank you

Sorry didn't see this until now. We bought the London Pass just over 2 years ago, so maybe the offers have now changed.

Inside the offer book you get when The Pass is purchased, there was a voucher for a free bear under Hamleys. We had 4 Passes, and you had to spend £20 in Hamleys to qualify for the bear. I bought two games for Xmas, and gave the voucher at the time of purchase, they didn't stamp it, so later my OH went with the same till reciept and claimed another bear, so on and so on. So we had 4 bears, 3 of which we gave for presents, and 2 games ready for Xmas for £20.00!!

When I have time I'll look at the London Pass website too.
