Check out some of the models on www.saveonlaptops.co.uk to get an idea, then compare the prices elsewhere if you like a model.

use www.cpubenchmark.net to get a sense of the processing power,
    and

Ebay. Second hand Thinkpad X61s. Far better build quality than the Acer and you'll have change out of £250. Or the Dell Latitude D420/D430. Both the D430 and X61S are business class machines that were in excess of £1000 new and there's enough ex-govt ones around in mint virtually unused condition.

No HDMI on either but pretty much everything with HDMI inputs has VGA and a 3.5mm stereo jack input.

That would be my choice. Arriving in stock soon, 11.6" hdmi, will play 1080p stuff without a sweat, much quicker than the atoms, and battery can apparently last up to 5 hours. An hour short of your target, but in this area of the market you'll need to compromise somewhere.

edit - what resolution does the TV support, and what resolution is the content you wish to play? If its blu ray rips at 1080p on a full HD tv, then something with an ion or radeon chipset, or 4500MHD (not sure you'd get this on a sub 12" laptop) is a must.
If the TV only supports up to 720p, and the content you play is 720p, then you can do without HDMI as even my atom n450 and crappy intel 3150 will play 720p mkv files spot on, and you can carry audio over the 3.5m jack as above

    Thanks for the suggestions,

I am really looking for something with a warranty (new or refurisbished), the levo looks really good especially with the separate graphic card.
I use the hdmi on a few TVs, mostly to show my grandmother (and other relatives) videos of her other grandsons and granddaughters across the pond. The videos arnt 1080p but I already have the lead in place in all there TVs.

    I have also found

Hannspree 12” notebook, u4100 2 gb of ram, and 320gb of ram was on sale in misco for 195.00, Has any1 had any experience with Hanspree? Have not idea about their build quality- or if I could get another battery for the product?

The other option is on eBay and is Dell Inspiron 11z – u4100 2gb ram 160gig but does come with a 3 year warranty all included for £287
