best insect repellent for india?

am going to india in a few weeks and need to buy some insect repellent and any cream for bites that I will get. Has anyone got any tips or remedies?

    Odomos, buy it there for about 50p per tube and an electrical plug in device with a month's liquid for about £1. available everywhere. Mozzie coils also available from about 40p per 10. Unless you're going deep in to
    the jungle this should do. The golden rule is don't get bitten, this is monsoon so lots of insect between now and November.

    Agree with Bob the saver, if you do have problems call at a chemist he/she will prescribe a treatment without using doctors, their ointments and such are more suited to the region than our weak brands.

    Can't take the tablets for the whole winter, fully recovered thanks.

    Took advice from the experts in the hospital in Singapore who said no, but this was a couple of years ago.
