Defaults

Hello It has been a number of years since I last posted on here. This site was excellent support, when i was trying to get debt free. A number of years on, I am debt free and trying to move on. I have defaults from when i was married, it looks like i may still owe some money on them. I thought I had paid everything. If i contacted them and offered to pay any outstanding would they clear my default or is it there to stay for a further 2years?

any advice greatly appreciated

Its there to stay for 6years from the registered default date.

If you pay them off then they would be marked as satisfied defaults for the remainder of the period. But a satisfied default is not loads better than unsatisfied one in terms of trying to get new credit etc.

  • Thank you that is what i had thought, but hoped i was wrong! They are marked as satisfactory except one. so should i contact the unsatisfactory one? Will it make any difference?

It will make no difference as defaults drop off your credit file 6 years after they have been applied whether satisfied or not. So it's up to you whether or not you contact them.
If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

It culd ofcourse be that they haven't marked yoru debt as satisfied when they should have done? :) Have you checked your records to see if this is a debt you have actually paid off?
