Post Office Investment Account from 1992....would it still be live?

I have just found my sons pass book which I thought was long lost. The last entry was late 1992 and there was £40 in the account. I have never had any interest added to the pass book, so can I expect there to be almost 19 years of interest? Would the account be classed as dormant?

If I remember correctly, to add interest you need to send the passbook off to NS&I http://www.nsandi.com/contact-us There's a free phone number for enquiries 0500 007 007. Why not give them a call.
If you ask at your local post office, they will possibly be able to give you a freepost? envelope to send your passbook, and a blank envelope which you need to address to yourself for the return of the passbook. They used to do this when I had a National Savings account but that's a long time ago.
Even if it's dormant, it's still yours. I'm not aware of any time limit for claiming your money.0 -
Don't they say there are millions, if not billions in dormant accounts? There are even companies that try to trace them for you0

There are companies which will trace them for a fee.
There are better methods described here:
