Curry's/PCWorld Bath - exceptional service!

TL;DR version: I have been very impressed today by Curry's in Bath - hoorah!

On Sunday I wanted to upgrade a laptop to Windows 7, there aren't many choices in Bath, so I went into PCWorld/Curry's in the city centre. W7 Upgrade was shelf-priced at £100, but if reserved online it was £85, so I went in all ready to buy it. I had been umming and ahh-ing whether the lappy was worth upgrading, it's a little old now, despite having been top-end in its day, so had a look at new lappies at the same time.

An assistant talked me through what I was after, and seeing as they had nothing particularly high-end in store, and I was looking for about £1200's worth of lappy, we looked at the company's online products. One jumped out - an i7 17.3" 1920x1080 lappy reduced from £1299.99 to £699.99. OK, so it isn't the latest i7 processor, but the screen size and more importantly resolution were right, and it had rave reviews in the press last year.

There weren't many left in the company, unsurprisingly they had been selling fast at £600 off, so they did a phone round for me to see what they could find - and they called just about every store in the country still showing stock positive. The most any shop had was 2 pieces (1 in front, one in storeroom), and they had web orders placed on those ones, so we couldn't have them. Head office didn't have any more, these were priced to go.

So my only options were for lesser models, or pay significantly more, or both, or one of the few ex-demo units left unsold in the country - which is being delivered to store, reimaged, sterilised, and checked with a 5% discount, and discounts on some peripherals I wanted too. These guys in store put in hours worth of work for that sale, they made call after call in a busy store to get me the right deal on the right item, they really were customer focussed, impressively so. Not all upsell and pushing, but wanting to make me a happy customer. And they did.

Wow. Very rare on MSE to see praise for PCW. Nice to see them making an effort to get what you wanted.

Rare indeed, but they not only exceeded my expectations for PCW, but exceeded my expectations for any high-street retailer, I thought it was only fair to them to say!
