Nat West Applications Before New Range

Did anyone else apply for a Step account online on either 1/7 or 2/7?
Both I and my partner applied online at 22:57 on 1/7 and got email confirmation of receipt, with a promise of a postal update within 3 days.
When we hadnt heard anything by today I called up and was told they had no trace of the applications that it was "Very Strange" but I couldnt have that account now and tried to get me to do a new application for a Select Silver account.
Surely it cant be coincidence that both of our applications made in the dying days of a now extinct product have miraculously disappeared?

You can't make them open any type of account for you if they don't want to.0

I'm not trying to do that - If they don't want my custom that's fine and entirely their prerogative but as they say the application never happened I haven't had either an acceptance OR a rejection.0 -
Was you given an application reference at the end of the application?
Has a credit search been recorded on your credit file?
Plus the bank will always promote a free paying account first alls you need to do is say NO..Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Cheers for the reply stclair, I did get a reference but as I saw an email pop into my inbox confirming my application I (foolishly) assumed the reference was also included in the email (it wasnt).
I havent checked my CRA files yet but the email certainly confirms the application was made.
I was hoping to move my banking to the step account in the hope of building a profile before attempting a mainstream current a/c in the future - the Basic A/c just doesn't cut it with the ATM restrictions, which is why I applied for Step when I heard it was being withdrawn.
I'm just surprised two independent applications both disappear, I'm not saying deliberately but just very strange (especially as I have 2 business Ltd Co accounts and a Joint First Reserve).0 -
Im sorry to hear of your experience.
However I would recommend you get a copy of credit reports and see if any searches was made.
As you can imagine youve missed the boat now for a step account. If you go into branch they can do a generic application for you then the system will decide at the end what account type you may be illegible for.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Thanks for your advice, I will order CRA files and see what if anything shows.
Can only a branch do a generic application? and is this a full CRA search or a "soft" search until I know which account to go for?
This generic application may well be the way to go in the future, would having an existing basic a/c help me or would the decision be based purely on CRA information?
Cheers (and sorry for all the questions!)

To be honest im not sure if they do generic applications over the telephone maybe you could call them on
0800 148 8323 and ask the question.
When making an application they will mostly likely do a full credit search using experian and equifax. Because you have an existing accounts already that will go in your favour.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I pinged off a feedback form and got a letter saying that application was delayed due to a problem at Chatham and here's a handwritten application which is valid to open the step as you applied for. :j0
