Wireless Device not working

I have a Acer Travelmate 254LMI running XP.
After talktalk sent someone out to look at my router to-day as it has played up for the past 6 weeks, after he messed about with the settings on both my Wired Desk top and my Laptop and then could only get the laptop to connect on the wire, he said my wireless card was not working and told me to buy a plug in adapter.
When he left I rang TT and they went all through the settings with me, but it still would not connect.
In Device Manager the Lan-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter has a yellow Exclamation Mark, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, but the mark is still there, Is there anything else I can try or have I got to get a new wireless card fitted and if so what should I expect to pay.
I know this laptop is old, but it has not had a lot of ware, I am in my seventies and do not use it to download or play games etc like the youngsters do, also I know this was working last night.
Thanking you for any advice. Drind

You say you have reinstalled it but have you reinstalled the driver? Or tried a system roll back?
I had a simialr older Acer which required a Inprocomm IPN2220 WLAN adapter driver but I could never find it on the Acer website eventually got it of the Packard Bell website, this was before Acer bought out Packard Bell.0 -
I did the reinstall using the Wizard, I have got the original discs but I am not sure what one to use as there are 3.0

When I click on the wireless card it say's " This Device cannot start [code 10]"0

Ambit 802.11a+g WLAN driver 2.3.1.10
You can use the corresponding one on the disc or download from my link. Do you know how to unzip files?
If not, I have created a self-extracting archive for you..80211AG.exe Download and save to your Desktop and then choose 'Install'. A folder named 80211ag will appear on your Desktop. Take a look inside and double-click on the Setup application within.
Of course you don't need this if you have the Driver on disc.0 -
stilltheone, thanks to you I now have the wireless card working all I have to do now is get all my wireless settings reinstalled, talktalk changed things a few times and the settings are all messed up, I was told that I can download them from the TT site but I can't find my settings on there so I will have to ring them again in the morning.

Hi Ady, Thank you for your reply.
I have now got the wireless working on my laptop, but I still can't get on line, I have phoned TT again today and spoke to a lady on line "3", she went through all the settings with me and still it won't connect so she has ordered yet another router to be sent out a D-Link so now I have to wait about a week for that.
Ady I can tell you I am not a happy bunny right now and I will never let anyone from the cube into my house again, after 6 weeks of the connection keep dropping TT made an appointment for the cube to come out and I told them that I did not want them touching my PC or laptop as I have had a very bad experience with them last year and he assured me that they were now not allowed to do that any more,[the trouble I had then must be on my record as TT gave me abt £40 off my bill].
The bloke they sent last year spent the whole afternoon messing up my machines and then kept begging a superviser to come out and help him, but they refused so he left in a hurry, I phoned TT and they made them send another bloke to sort it out the next day and it took him three hours to put it right and now another idiot has left me in a mess and had the cheak to say that my lap top does not have built in wireless and if I want wireless I should go and buy a dongle for about £20.
Any way I would love to tell you the whole story, but it is too much to put on here, but I think I will be writing a strong letter of complaint.
Bye for now Drinda.0 -
can you get online with the laptop wired?!!
> . !!!! ----> .0 -
Hi Close, Yes I can get on line with the wire. When the Bloke from the cube came yesterday he brought a new router with him a Huawei Echol HG521, but he installed an old one and took the new one away with him, I have told TT what happend and they said they have made a note about it incase he charges for it.
My PC is wired and that is what I am useing now, but I like my laptop as I am in my 70s and not too well so I can sit in my armchair and use that, the wire is not long enough to reach the laptop so I will just have to wait for the new router.
Thanking you Drinda.0 -
Hi Drinda,
I wouldn't wait for the new router as it sounds like a setting he changed on your laptop that may be causing the issue. If I were you I would go to the talktalkmembersforum where we will do our best to resolve this for you.
If we can't find the setting causing the issue we would be able to offer other solutions.
