I've just booked a flight with british airways and you got a free buggy and car seat allowance, and it actually worked out cheaper than ryanair can you believe! take plenty of baby wipes, you always need them! x

Apparently the post office can do a quick send for something like £8 and it is 'guaranteed' to get back to you within a couple of weeks. Anyone tried this? I may have worded some of the above wrong! Was just told this by someone at work who did the same.

We were told this - then discovered too late that they won't do it on first passports. I ended up taking dd to London to the passport office aged 7 weeks to get her passport, just a week before we were due to fly!

As for travelling with a baby, I'd say it's easier than with a toddler. Take the amount of nappies and baby wipes you'll need, and you don't need much else. I breastfed so milk was always available, we coslept so no cot required, and I used a wrap sling so no buggy either!

Even with BA there was no extra luggage allowance though, but we didn't need it.

I think if you are using formula then it would be harder, but not impossible, they do have it in other countries after all!

I'd personally get the passport done before you book anything.

I sent off for my little boys renewal via the check and send service (meant to be a 2 week turnaround) it's now been nearly 4 weeks! I've chased with passport office and they just say it can take upto 6 weeks during busy times

Just a quick update - the passport arrived today (was beginning to worry as we go away quite soon!)

I did check and send on 14.06.11 so it's taking longer than the normal 2 weeks

The only thing I would suggest you take/buy is a shade a baby sun shade. They are fantastic for shading the whole buggy/pushchair. I used to work overseas and it was something I used to watch parents constantly struggle with.
I am a childminder now (and have my own children) and I have one of these and I loan mine out to everyone I know going on hol with young children......everyone has come back raving about it.
