Bank Account Help for 18 year old

Hi, I need some help / advice for my 18 yr old son. He is trying to get a bank account, but it's proving hard due to verification problems, he doesn't have a utility bill / phone bill / bank statement / council tax bill in his name due to living with myself and step dad, all the banks seem to want something official in his name with our address, I have explained that he just doesn't as he's still at school ( have a child benefit letter in my name but naming him as one of my children I receive benefit for, but thats no good either ), he already has savings accounts with nationwide, and thats where we went first, but even they require the same and will not accept his savings accounts books?? He has his passport and birth certificate.
Any help / advice gratefully received, thanks

Its like chicken and egg isnt it! - If he looks for a basic bank account, make sure he is on the electoral roll. Barclays do an Identity check based on the Electoral Roll so may not need additional ID other than Passport/Driving Licence (He should get both of those as the Passport acts as Phot ID and the DLic even if Provisional can act as proof of address).
Other than that a GP/Solicitor/Headteachers letter may also work.0 -
If he's over 18 he's classed as an adult so needs to be verified accordingly.
Does he not have a driving licence? This would be satisfactory. Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!0 -

No he doesn't have a dl, he's been very ill for the last 2 years, hence the neglect re bank accounts etc, he was reluctant to plan longterm, but now he's on the mend, he's keen to get things moving. I did ask nationwide about a dl, to perhaps apply for a provisional just for this purpose, but that was on list 1 along with passport but not on list 2 ( address verification ).
A letter from his headmistress, a solicitor or even a high ranking police officer are not acceptable.
I know the rules etc are in place to prevent money laundering and other crimes, but he's just an 18 yr old lad, born and bred in Cornwall.0 -

Think beyond nationwide then, there are lots of banks and they all have their own criteria0 -
To OP if son is on electoral roll then that + the passport should be sufficent for id.
If he is not then he can ring his local tax office and get a copy of his tax coding letter for this tax year.0 -
try and apply online, i've applied to abbey before and they didn't need to see any id. Some just do automatic cheques online:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one

Go to Barclays or LTSB, they only require a passport, and no seperate proof of address.
LTSB has a the highest interest rate for their accounts. Go for the 'Young Persons Account' (http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/under_19s_account.asp )0 -
