This is a real con isn't it! Thanks OP for pointing it out, it's not something I would have thought of - being charged to pay for using a debit card just because it's for foreign exchange.
I've just looked on the Travelex site as I usually pre-order Euros with them and pickup at the airport when going on annual hols...they say "Note: Travelex will not charge you for using a UK debit card." I presume that although they won't your bank might?
Anyone help and tell me whether HSBC charge for using their Visa debit card to buy foreign cash? Thanks.0 -
HSBC and First Direct don't charge.
As mentioned very few do nowadays, but as a precaution, so many people at the Bureau pay in cash. Hopefully when everyone realises no debit cards charge, the amounts of 20's and 50's that exchange hands will be less.0
