Myself and my OH got engaged xmas day and he has decided he wants a party to celebrate. We are trying to keep the cost down and are hoping to hold it in a social club to decrease the cost to guests too.
I have never been to an engagement party and want to make it a happy and fun event has anyone any suggestions on what i can do to decorate, food, drinks etc and places where i can buy essentials at a cheap price. I was considering doing some cocktails for guests and just doing party snacks probably courtesy of Makro. Any ideas of how we can make it fun? I read about putting up posters 'advice for men getting wed' and 'advice for women getting wed' and the guests write on them, anyone done this before?
Any advice gratly appreciated.

We run a mobile disco and have been hired to play at engagement parties.
Most are in social clubs or similar function rooms. Some rooms have not been decorated. Others have a few helium balloons tied together on tables, or small floral arrangments.
Guests tend to buy their own drinks, but a buffet is provided. Sometimes this is bought in, sometimes various relatives turn up with plates of food!
None have really had a theme or main event. We normally play romantic music as people arrive. The couple usually get up and say a short speech - thanks for coming, thanks for pressies etc., and then it's just the usual party disco after the buffet.
Oh and congratulations and best wishes for the future :THere I go again on my own....0 -
Thanks, I want to make it an event that gets the guests involved and has something memorable to keep other than pictures. I know that is usually saved for the wedding but as I am only 21 and plan and doing this just once and my daughter is only 1 I want to be able to show her things we did and the fun we had if you know what I mean.0
