Travel Insurance - Any decent insurers?

Hi All

I will be travelling around Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia this year (30 days total travel across these areas), plus 2 weeks to France in a couple of weeks and maybe the US next year! and am currently looking for a suitable travel insurance to match.

I am 26 (as know that age makes a difference to some insurers) and no existing conditions/problems.

I have found places like annual travel insurance, holiday safe, direct-travel and travel insurance web who offer seemingly great cover (medical/legal cover/cash/valuables and other perks). e.g. £40 and under for worldwide cover with £60/70 excesses.

However I looked at some review websites, most of these companies get 2 stars or less out of 5! Seemingly the only decent insurer out there is the post office and they want £73 exc US/Canada.

Given the cover is only good if the insurer allows you to claim without throwing in 200 exclusions, are the post office really the only viable solution? Or are there any other better value providers out there?

Thanks :D

The Post Office are currently changing the terms of their insurance so past reviews may not be accurate.

I went with John Lewis insurance. I suspect they are expensive, but I didn't have too many options with my age and health conditions.

They have an 'adventure' type option for the kind of travelling you will be doing. Also when I bought the policy last year, they were covering for ash cloud related incidents.

If I claim, I will be looking for John Lewis style service. Fortunately I have not had to claim yet.

Why don't you get a quote from them and check out their coverage?

Also be aware that people are more likely to leave a review if they are unhappy rather than happy. It is also possible, if you read between the lines, that the people who gave a bad review possibly didn't have a valid claim within the T&C's of the policy.
