Ebay 10p Listing Day this Friday-merged

27 December 2006

What’s the deal?

This Friday 29 December, eBay* is having a 10p Listing Day, so it's a great time to offload those unwanted Xmas pressies.

What’s included?

The offer’s valid on Auction-style, Auction-with-Buy It Now or Buy It Now Only (Fixed Price) auctions.

How much will I pay?

While it only costs 10p to list your item, you’ll still have to pay a sale charge if someone buys it. This is a percentage of the auction’s closing price.

As an example, if you sell your item for £28 you’ll pay only a 10p listing fee, then £1.47 sale charge. See a full breakdown of eBay fees.

How to make the biggest savings.

It’s worth remembering you don't pay a sale charge if your item doesn’t sell; so if no one buys it you’ll only lose 10p.

Also normally, the more expensive your item, the more expensive the listing fee. For instance items priced under 99p cost only £15p to list, whereas items over £100 cost £2. So the biggest savings are on items with a high buy-it-now price of £100. Though you’ll still save a bundle if you’re listing lots of small items.

for 10p, I'll be listing whatever i have time to get on there lol, I'll start them at the lowest price i want for them though ;)
My first ever Ebay Challenge. So far after fees etc for 2007 - £635.72 :T
  • As someone who has run an EBAY business for many years - I can honestly say - don't be fooled by the 'cheap listing day'.

Whilst it may save you 5p on the listing fee, (as opposed to listing the item with a 99p start price), the final amount you are likely to get for the item when the bidding is over is mostly much lower than normal.

Many many people take advantage of the cheap listing by bulk listing 1000s of items, and flooding the market, - where there are the same number of buyers as normal.

It's all down to supply and demand!

Also - be careful not to list on a 'multiple' of free/cheap listing day, If the free listing day is a Tueday for example, auctions can be 1,3,5,7 or 10 days so avoid the following Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, 2nd Tuesday or 2nd Friday, as all the bidding on those cheaply listed items will end at those times.
    Loving the dtd thread. x
  • I was about to begin a tirade of listing today until I saw this, so in an attempt to be prepared I've pre written my listings for my items - so all i need to do come friday is copy and paste :)!

Actually, Martin, I think you'll find I spotted this and posted it a Christmas morning. See

    But hey, who's counting?

I was going to take advantage of this offer to sell an item that I have spare after Christmas. I ended up with 2 of the same thing. Since I bought one of them myself and at a good price I really only want to recoup what I paid for it. Would I be better waiting until after this offer is over or rush it through today on a 1 day listing.

I've never sold a thing on ebay before, but have bought loads, and don't intend to try to make a business out of it so I'm just looking to make sure I don't lose money when selling this item.

  • i think it is not a good time to sell on ebay.specially when people are out of pocket...spending so much on christmas gifts.
i have decided to wait few more weeks.when 10p listings will be back again.

If you bought recently and still have the receipt, couldn't you return it to the shop for a full refund (or return the Christmas present, assuming you opened the one you bought and assuming that the packaging is identical and not marked with another retailer's labels)?

  • Ebay do this lower cost listing this time every year, its for a reason and that is there are fewer people using ebay and they are trying to kick start the year. They will do it a few times in jan and Feb...be carefull as these reduced 10p days are not as cheap as they look as Arthur Dent explained earlier...if you look around the web there are loads of great bargains to be had
    Happy bargain hunting

Personally, I'd list things BIN with the price you'd accept.

    So much easier ...
