The case of the broken Acrylic tap

Hey Folks,
Basically last night my hot water tap on my ancient basin wouldn't turn off properly (it was very stiff), so using more force than I properly should of managed to shut it off.. but I also managed to take the acrylic tap head off with it.
I've broken the little plastic adapter which sits on top of the spine? and fits a "star shaped" hole inside the tap head.
Anyone have an idea where I might find the plastic adapter? Or even a name for it?!

I'm struggling to imagine what exactly you're describing, but replacement tap heads including the valve assembly are available - http://www.screwfix.com/c/bathrooms-kitchens/reviver-kits/cat820108. Five minute job, only need a couple of spanners and a screw driver. Turn off the water first!0

Best description other than my own
spindle on which the screw attaches onto?
edit:
Here's a picture from another site(i'm at work just now, it's similar to what I need), the white part in the middle wasn't gripping onto the spindle of the tap and broke. Minimal effort would be to replace the heads of the tap rather than the whole tap..
Although that would give me an excuse to replace the whole lot.. it's avocado green :-S:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
What I've linked to replaces only the handle and the valve - the spout and its connection to the basin stay in situ. Cheap way of avoiding a refit0

Go to plumbers merchants and ask for a tap restorer kit. You can get acrylic or metal heads.
Using these will replace all moving parts inside and give you many more years of use.
You'll also be happy to have a go when the next set of taps need repairing.
PS can we have a nice pic when you've done it :TYou have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -
