On a slightly wider issue, I'm trying to come up with a generic name for a beauty products business and would like to know how to check if a particular word has a different meaning in other languages. Short of googling particular words, does anyone know a website that I could enter words into for a 'quick check'?

Google 'yahoo babelfish' and click the first un-sponsored result - you will get the translation tool, not foolproof but a good start..

    Thanks all :-)

It's a business to do DIY for other people.

    I really appreciate your replies

I love this one, especially you are doing odd jobs for other people. It's a perfect fit, although perhaps not as professional-sounding as you may want.

The clue is in the name, DIY !!!!!!

Not trying to be rude but its there

No it was not obvious, hence my question.:D

The OP has now said he is going to do work for other people so therefore its not diy ,given that diy is where you do it yourself ,not use a tradesperson.

Not to be rude, but you are not doing other people's DIY, because by it's very nature it would no longer be DIY so don't include that in the name.

You could be doing painting, decorating or such like though.
